Bangladesh Post Office has invited job application from legitimate Bangladeshi citizens from specific districts against different posts on temporary basis. The total number of vacancies is 207 (two hundred seven) and the job location is at Khulna. Interested candidates have been asked to submit handwritten application in plain paper as per prescribed format along with necessary documents such as (a) 03 copies of recent passport size photographs (b) treasury challan of Tk. 100/- (c) 25 centimeter x 11 centimeter return envelope with name and address of the applicant. In addition, the candidates must write the name of post, and division on top of the envelope. The interested candidates are being requested to apply by April 30, 2015.

Oedipus Complex

Oedipus Complex is a psychoanalytic theory put forward by the Austrian neurologist Sigmund Freud in his Interpretation of Dreams (1899). Oedipus Complex is defined as the male child’s desire for exclusive love from the parent of the opposite sex. The concept is developed after the Attic hero Oedipus, who unknowingly killed his father and espoused his mother. Freud restricted the occurring stage of Oedipus Conflict between 3 to 5 years. Freud assumed that during this stage the child experiences sexual desire for the mother. This desire, in turn, motivates the child to exclude the father out of jealousy. He begins to compete with the father for possessing the mother. The child views the father as a rival for getting the mother’s affection or attention.

The Swiss psychiatrist and psychotherapist Carl Gustav Jung identifies a similar symptom in girls, which is known as Electra Complex. It is defined as the female child’s desire for affection or attention from the father. A girl with Electra Complex generally feels attracted with the father and becomes jealous with the mother. The theory derives its name from the mythological character Electra, who helped to slay her mother in order to avenge her father’s murder. Freud however, rejected Jung’s theory by stating it inaccurate.

Sigmund Freud’s theory greatly influenced the field of literature. Many modern writers used this concept to unveil the psychological complexities in human beings. One such writer is the English writer D. H. Lawrence. In his novel Sons and Lovers (1913), Lawrence incorporates biographical elements and shows how his mother fixation kept him aloof from forming healthy relationship with any woman.

The Neoclassical Literature

During the waning days of Renaissance there had been some efforts to revive the mood and temperament of the Classical attitudes. The representatives of this Age primarily tend to imitate the trends of the Classical Age. Hence, this Age is referred to as Neoclassical Age (also referred to as Pseudo Classical Age). The authors of this period placed reason over intellect and society over individual. In short, the Neoclassical work is characterized by order, accuracy, and structure. With a sharp contrast to the Renaissance outlook, the Neoclassical writers portrayed man as inherently flawed. They emphasized restraint, self-control, and common sense.

The 18th-century English poet Alexander Pope (1688-1744) is aligned with the chief representative of this Age. His undoubted magnum opus is The Rape of the Lock (1712; revised 1714), which deemed by many to be the apex paradigm of mock epic. In this long poem Pope intentionally burlesqued the tradition of the regular epic poem. The poem comprises all the traditional elements of a regular epic may possess except the subject, which is very trivial. The poem relates the story of an aristocratic girl named Belinda, whose lock of hair was snipped off by a suitor, resultantly a battle of the sexes ensued. Belinda was so angry that she was determined to avenge the offense. In this connection she started to prepare herself for the battle. Pope described her preparation in such a manner as if an epic hero is preparing himself for the battlefield. The following is an excerpt from Rape of the Lock (Canto V):

Oh! if to dance all night and dress all day,
Charm'd the small-pox, or chased old age away,
Who would not scorn what housewife's cares produce,
Or who would learn one earthly thing of use?
To patch, nay ogle, may become a saint;
