Short Biography
Sylvia Plath was a 20th century American poet, novelist, and short story writer. She was born on October 27, 1932, in Boston, Massachusetts, US to Otto Plath (1885–1940) and Aurelia Schober Plath (1906–1994). Plath studied at Smith College and Newnham College at the University of Cambridge. She was married to fellow poet Ted Hughes from 1956 until they separated in September 1962. She committed suicide in 1963 allegedly due to depression ensued from her failed marriage.
