Shishu Park Visiting Hours & Ticket Price

Shishu Park is the first children’s amusement park in Bangladesh. The park was built in 1979 on 15 acres of land on the northern part of Sohrawardy Uddyan. During the 80s and 90s it was one of the most appealing places in Dhaka city. However, with the passage of time it has lost its old charm. Its look and infrastructure have deteriorated due to lack of proper maintenance and timely financing. At present most of the rides are old and worn-out with an increased amount of vulnerability. They frequently malfunction and immediately need to be replaced to avoid fatal consequences. Moreover, many private amusement parks such as, Fantasy Kingdom, Nandan Park, and Wonderland have cut off huge visitors from Shishu Park. Nowadays the park sees remarkable crowds on Fridays and public holidays only. Nonetheless, with all its drawbacks it is still a good and affordable amusement park for the middle class people. The park needs urgent attention to restore its old glory.

Tariffs

• Entry Fee: Tk. 15/- (including VAT) per person
• Rides Coupons: Tk. 10/- (including VAT) each and are sold inside the park. There are 12 different rides to choose from.
• Private company owned ride coupons cost Tk. 25 (including VAT) per person. At present there are 04 rides maintained by private company.

NOTICE: Shishu Park has been announced closed from January 2019 to December 2019 (for an year) for conducting modernization and uogradation work.

Nijhum Dwip

Bangladesh is noted partly for its flora and fauna. The tourism in Bangladesh is also centers around its natural spots. Nijhum Dwip (Tranquil Island) is one of the best tourist spots in Bangladesh. Although it is called an island, basically it is an alluvium. It is located at Hatiya upazila under Noakhali district.

This magnificent island is about 14,050 acres, which emerged in 1950. Nijhum Dwip is formed of a group of alluviums namely Ballar Char, Kamlar Char, Char Osman, and Char Muri.

Bangladesh Forest Department started its forestation project in Nijhum Dwip in the 1970s. Initially they released eight spotted deer as an experiment. At present this island is a sanctuary for spotted deer. There are also many different species of birds live in this island. The majority of trees in this island are the Keora trees, which were planted by the Forest Department.  In the year 2001, the government of Bangladesh declared Nijhum Dwip forests as National Park. During the winter season this island becomes the sanctuary for loads of migratory birds.

Nijhum Dwip is a large polymeric island having 9 clusters of villages. It drowns under water during the high tide and re-emerges during the low tide. To communicate with the other villages, the inmates of Nijhum Dwiphave to depend upon the mercy of the tides. To go to Dhaka they need to start for Hatiya by trawler after 9 a.m., when tide is higher. The trawler reaches Hatiya approximately after 2-3 hours. Then they can start for Dhaka from Hatiya by launch.

Nijhum Dwip has vacation resort for tourists, where there is facility of water and electricity supplied by the generator. There are also local restaurants for foods. All in all, it is a ready spot for tourists and visitors to enjoy the natural beauty in a calm and tranquil environment.

Ahasn Manzil Museum

Brief History of Ahsan Manzil

Ahasn Manzil proudly stands amongst the magnificent historical and architectural specimens in Bangladesh. It stands on the banks of the river Buriganga. It was erected by Nawab Abdul Ghani. He named the palace "Ahsan Manzil" after his son Khwaja Ahsanullah.  Its construction began in 1859 and completed in 1872. After its emergence, it faced damages for several times for natural calamities. On April 7, 1888 a fierce tornado severely damaged it. Then Nawab Ahsanullah rebuilt the building. But Ahsan Manzil once again came under attack of an earthquake on June 12, 1897. However, Nawab Ahsanullah was able to restore it again. The palace was subsequently got damaged due to lack of maintenance by its successors. With the passage of time the palace became the sanctuary of illegal occupants.

After much damage, the government could ascertain the historical value of Ahsan Manzil. The restoration of the palace was completed in 1992. The Directorate of Public Works and Architecture supervised the whole renovation work. In the same year Bangladesh National Museum was given the authority to control it. At present, it is one of the eye-catching museums in Bangladesh.
