The latter-mentioned flyover was designed in the year 2005. But due to severe complications the construction could not begin until February 2012. To facilitate the construction work the project has been divided in three packages:

The flyover is about 8.5 kilometer long and is capable of withstanding earthquake up to 10 Richter scale. Although this flyover is akin to other existing flyovers in Dhaka City, it is distinguished by few unique features. For instance, unlike previous flyovers, this one has single and extended pillars, which would enable the vehicles to ply much comfortably underneath the structure. Again, another remarkable thing about this flyover is that it is three-storied, which will definitely create more plying grounds for the increasing vehicles.
The flyover was expected to be completed by November 2014 but due to unplanned utility connections, the authority changed the pilling design for more than hundred times. However, it is anticipated that the flyover will be finished by the end of 2016. Initially, the estimated construction cost was 755 crore, which now exceeded over 1000 crore.
