The method of Blogger’s sitemap submission is relatively easy. All Blogger blogs have automatically generated sitemap which contains all links to posts published on your blog. Moreover, there is also an option to submit all of your static pages. But the first step is to find your sitemap files which you can complete in the following manner:
Finding your sitemap URL
For Posts:https://yourblogname.blogspot.com/sitemap.xmlFor Static Pages:
https://yourblogname.blogspot.com/sitemap-pages.xmlExplanation with example:
Replace the “yourblogname” with your blog’s address. For instance, to fetch my blog’s sitemap I have to make the following modifications:
https://lifebd360.blogspot.com/sitemap.xml
https://lifebd360.blogspot.com/sitemap-pages.xml
Adding your sitemap URL to Google Search Console
To submit your sitemap(s) you must have to add your site into Google Search Console. If you already have it done then ignore Step 2 & 3 and follow Step 1, 4, 5 & 6.Step 1: Log in to Google Search Console.
Step 2: Click on “Add property” and under “Select property type” enter your blog’s URL and hit “Continue”.
Step 3: From “Verify ownership” expand “HTML tag Add a meta tag to your site's home page” and copy the meta tag inside <head> section of your blog’s template.
Step 6: Under “Add a new sitemap” field enter your sitemap URL for posts and hit “Submit”. To submit a sitemap for static pages, follow the same step.
Getting most out of your sitemaps
https://yourblogname.blogspot.com/sitemap.xml is Blogger’s default sitemap format and it has a very limited scope for discovering site’s content. Simply speaking, this sitemap will tell the crawlers about the most recent 25 posts only, which doesn’t sound good at all. However, you may bring some changes to it to maximize its capabilities. For 500 recent posts:
The following model is applicable of telling the search engines about 500 recent posts. Just replace the “yourblogname” with your blog address:
https://yourblogname.blogspot.com/atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=500When you are done with the alteration then submit the URL to the Google Search Console as per the method mentioned above.
For 1000 recent posts:
However, what happens when your blog reaches 1000 posts? Well, don’t worry, you then have to submit another sitemap to Search Console in the following format:
https://yourblogname.blogspot.com/atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=501&max-results=1000Thanks for reading. Hope I have been able to explain the sitemap submission procedure most simply.
