Have you forgotten your Gmail password? Don’t panic, there are certain strategies which you can follow to access your account. You will not only recover the lost password but also not have to be disconnected from the Gmail account. Let’s see how to reset your Gmail password.

What to do if you forget your Gmail password?

How to change or recover your lost Gmail password:

  1. Go to the Gmail login page and click on the ‘Forgot password?’ option.
  2. If you do not remember the password you currently use in Gmail, enter the password you used earlier. If you do not remember, go to the ‘Try another way’ option.
  3. Google will then ask you to send the verification code to the mobile phone number associated with your Gmail account.
  4. If you do not have your phone with you, Google will send the verification code to the alternate mail address you provided when you opened Gmail. If you do not have a replacement email account associated with your Gmail, go back to the ‘Try another way’ option.
  5. Google will now ask for any email ID that you can enter. If the email ID is given, Google will send the code in it.
  6. If you get that code from Google, take it and put it in the Google dialogue box.
  7. This process allows you to recover your Gmail account. Once logged in, update the account by adding mobile number and alternative e-mail address for password recovery.

Always store your password in a safe and easily findable place. If you have trouble remembering passwords, you can use a third-party app like LastPass. Chrome, Firefox and many other mainstream browsers also allow users to store passwords in secured way. Apple has such a feature called ‘iCloud Keychain’.

Experts suggest adding two-factor authentication as well as complex passwords for Gmail security. For passwords always try to combine letters, numbers and symbols so that it becomes hard to guess.
